Over thirty companies now use a form of bio energy to provide their greenhouses with energy, for example by using a biomass boiler for heat or bio cogeneration (bio CHP) for heat and electricity. This concerns almost exclusively wood chips and wood shreds from nearby forests and public gardens or shreds from green composting. At the moment, the supply of wood is much larger than the demand, but the demand is increasing rapidly. Within a few years a shortage could already occur.
