British Flowers Week reached 15 million people on Social Media

Local flower trend boosts British sales

Last week, British Flowers Week was celebrated for the sixth year, and again it turned out to be a successful event. New Covent Garden Market, which started organizing this annual event in 2013, is currently rounding up and putting together the statistics, and they are very pleased. The event is all about promoting British flowers, and every year it seems to be celebrated more widely all over the country, with wholesalers even seeing an increase in sales of British flowers. "Our traders at the Flower Market at New Covent Garden Market were busy all week. And other wholesalers around the country did too - Flowers by Clowance, for example, reported that their sales were almost equivalent to Mother's Day", says Claire Levi of New Covent Garden Market.

According to Levi, a cornerstone this year was the British Flowers Week displays at Garden Museum. Six specially commissioned floral designs from some of the country's most famous florists were presented. "It is often thought that British flowers cannot be used to create these sorts of large innovative arrangements, but with this initiative we showed that they are absolutely suitable."
 
In addition to exhibiting the floral installations, it was a competition as well, and a Royal visitor, the Duchess of Cornwall, came on Thursday to present the awards to the winners of this 2018 British Flowers Week competition.

Increasing reach
British Flowers Week was started up by New Covent Garden Market six years ago and over the years, they have seen their reach increasing. "In the food industry, we see a trend towards buying more locally grown products for several years now, and this trend is now also becoming more visible in the flowers and this is helping British Flowers Week to expand its reach."

Next to the events organized by New Covent Garden Market, 35 other events were organized by companies on their own. The majority of the companies involved in British Flower Week used the hashtag #BritishFlowersWeek on social media and this, in turn, expanded the reach even further. "The campaign reached 15 million people: 12.7 million on Twitter and 2.3 million on Instagram."
 
"So far, I think that this year has been our best year yet."
