US (NJ): Phillipsburg farm and greenhouse to close after 70 years

The flowers have bloomed one last time at Piazza Farms and Greenhouses, a a Phillipsburg-area institution that will close Saturday after 70 years of operation.

Christy Piazza Krouse, who runs the business with her parents, said the farm has been a family affair since her great grandfather opened shop seven decades ago, but that her ancestors have been farming in the area for nearly a century. Piazza Farms and Greenhouses, located at 71 NJ-57, just off Route 22, has been sold to make way for a new development, she said.

Piazza Krouse's parents will be retiring after the garden center closes Saturday, but in the meantime, she said she and the other workers will continue to sell flowers and produce to customers and say their last goodbyes.
