Marc Lingard, Sirane:

"Biodegradable film is ideal for flowers"

Originally made for packing fresh produce, the biodegradable film of Sirane turned out to be a solution in the ornamental industry as well. “As it is breathable it actively helps extend the shelf-life of fresh fruit and vegetables. However, its properties, ie. compostable, transparent, breathable, and sustainable, make it ideal for flowers also”, says Mark Lingard, marketing manager of Sirane.

Compostable
The Sira-Flex Resolve flower wraps are made of natural, plant-based materials. Therefore it can be discarded with the product as green waste. It will bio-degrade completely in approximately 9 weeks. A nice bonus is that the foil has reduced creasing and has a low level noise when packing.

Challenging
There is a high demand of bio, compostable products. However, producing them is always more challenging, according to Mark. “There are less materials available and the strength of materials you are using is always very important.” The Sira-Flex Resolve has been around on the market for a few years now. It is sold both into florists and into the flower trade, and in the fresh produce sector as well.

Pouches
The biodegradable film can be used in combination with Sirane’s Flower-fresh pouches, for an unique appearance. “These pouches are water-retaining. They have an impermeable layer on the outside, which can be made in a range of colours, and an absorbent layer on the inside. The absorbent layer holds some of the water and acts as a mini reservoir, maintaining a level of moisture in the pack. The two things can be used independently, or together as a package.”
