“With the current airfreight situation, many just drop flowers in a container to transport them by sea freight, but then without the knowledge and good handling, the quality of the flowers decreases.” For years Dutch company Intergreen ships flowers from Kenya and Colombia to Europe.
Four years ago they put their experience and philosophy into the US Market, by launching a sister company Intergreen USA. “For three years now, we focus on US supermarkets”, says Commercial Director Arno Rouws of this Miami based sister company. “We see the market increasing as the US economy is growing.”

Increasing sales
In Europe, Intergreen is known for their philosophy ‘we deliver your success’. “The idea of our philosophy is that we aim to increase the sales of our customers. If a supermarket cooperates with us, the sales of flowers will increase. That is something we really track. Higher sales means higher turnover, less loss of product, means higher profit.”
Test and improve
Intergreen works with this philosophy in Europe for years and now, they also want to put it in the US. Besides the fact that we work with a selection of growers another advantage is that they are leaders on sea shipments and supply chain control. We test and improve the cold chain to secure a better vase life of our product portfolio. Chrysanthemums and Carnations, for example. For over 10 years, we are shipping them from Colombia to the Netherlands and UK and from Kenya to the Netherlands by sea freight. To make sure the quality will not decrease knowledge and good handling is necessary.”
