The "Feeding the Cities" conferences is an event organised by the Agriculture Department of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Colombia, in close collaboration with CIAT and Agrilink to be held on November 29th. This conference is organised under the framework of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte who comes to Colombia together with the Dutch Minister for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Mrs. Carola Schouten and her Deputy Minister, Mrs. Marjolijn Sonnema on November 28th and 29th.
The delegation of the Government of the Netherlands will be accompanied by a commercial delegation consisting of approximately 120 companies, which will have a special focus on the sectors of agriculture and food products, water and logistics and life sciences and health.
The "Feeding the Cities" Conference on November 29th will begin at 08:30 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. The venue will be the Marriott Hotel on Calle 73 con Carrera 9. At the event Minister Schouten and the Colombian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Andrés Valencia will act as key-note speakers. As confirmed the moderator for the event will be Mr. Jorge Enrique Bedoya, President of the Sociedad de Agricultores de Colombia - SAC. The topics that will be discussed during the conference are the following and are divided into two blocks, each with two lecturers with different approaches, one from the theory and the other from the practice:
Block A
- Food access and food quality & Improving standard of living of small farmers often who play an essential role in local good supply.
- Theory: TBD (CIAT)
- Practice: Mrs. Conny Toornstra (ICCO Cooperation)
Block B
- Reduction of food losses & Increase agricultural production and productivity especially in Green belts around cities in a sustainable way & Urban agriculture.
- Theory: Mr. Ernst van den Ende (Wageningen UR)
- Practice: Mr. Alejandro Sáenz (Sáenz Fety)
At the end of the lectures a discussion panel of approximately one hour will take place. There, different actors of the productive chain and the sector will exchange ideas and experiences around the topics presented during the conference.
Lastly, once the "Feeding the Cities" conference is over, a business platform will be set for two hours so that Dutch and Colombian companies / organizations can connect even more.
