Rack Item Optimizer (RIO) awarded patent

FlowVision has received its first patent for its Rack Item Optimizer (RIO) software. After many years of working on RIO rack optimization software, they received the patent October 2, 2018. This is the fifth patent FlowVision has received for its software products.

FlowVision's RIO software is designed to work hand-in hand with their Supermarket Shipping Methodology. RIO master pull sheets tell you where to put the rack in the supermarket, the Harvest Progression lets you track the harvesting real time on a tablet, and the racks sheets tell you where to pick the product from in the supermarket, including what rack and what shelf to put it on.

RIO connects easily with any ERP software, whether it is a home-grown system, or off the shelf software. Being a cloud-based software all you need is an internet connection; no hardware to buy, software to install, or maintenance fee to pay.

Here are what fully optimized racks look like:

RIO can be configured to work with CC Racks, EZ Shippers, Custom Racks, Wooden Racks, or whatever type of rack you use.

You can have RIO tell your employees how to build racks, instead of them trying to “put the puzzle together”. RIO gives them the answer by using rack sheets or stickers as shown below.

In harvesting/pulling, you can use RIO’s Master Pull Sheets as shown below. The master pull sheet ties in with the rack sheet or sticker to make the shopping/picking process more efficient at the loading dock.

"Before we would be pulling product from two locations, bringing carts and putting them together,” says Chad Corso, owner of Corso's Perennials. “As a result, we weren’t always filling the trailers. With the supermarket and RIO system we increased the capacity of our trucks by being able to plan out the loads better with the picking process and using a height parameter to fill the carts through the RIO program. The capacity of our loads increased, which enabled us to deliver to more stores on a truck and to ship larger orders on a truck. We peaked out at 97 percent capacity. We were able to increase the capacity on our trucks this year by 5 percent".

Chris McCorkle, president of McCorkle Nurseries, says: "RIO represents the first significant change we've made to our loading operations in more than a decade--my only regret is not having this capability much sooner. The RIO system has greatly improved our loading efficiency and accuracy."

"FlowVision's Rack Item Optimizer (RIO) software has been helpful determining how each rack should be loaded. It measures plants to be shipped and provides the most efficient setup for each rack based on height and weight", Mark Luchtefeld, VP of Sales and Marketing at Home Nursery, says.

"Blessed with growth in our business, we knew our existing software and processes were not going to keep up with demand for our products. We were referred to Flow Vision and implemented the RIO software ahead of the 2017 shipping season. Implementation and training were efficient and intuitive allowing us to quickly improve our lead time to market and manage the growth of our business. Business critical processes associated with pulling, racking, and shipping product were all handled easily within RIO", according to Patrick Lailey, owner of Plantsmart.
