The Bollenacademie Foundation has published English-language versions of two of its books about cultivating bulb flowers in the greenhouse: "Forcing Tulips" and "Forcing Lilies". These English versions will allow non-Dutch speakers in the Netherlands and abroad to also be up-to-date on the subject. The books are also valuable for the international relations of Dutch flower bulb companies. The original Dutch titles are "De broei van tulpen" and "De broei van lelies".
The Bollenacademie Foundation started the Studiebol project in 2016. The goal is to record and distribute knowledge for both employees and students. André Hoogendijk, chairman of the Bollenacademie: "We have already published books about growing tulips, lilies, daffodils, hyacinths and snowdrops. Thematic books have also been published, such as 'The Flower Bulb Chain' and 'Diseases and Pests on Flower Bulbs'. With these two English-language books, we want to contribute to the knowledge level of foreign employees in our sector."
The books describe the production of cut flowers from starting material up to the delivery of the end product. All technical aspects are covered: plants, crop care, harvest, processing, storage and diseases and pests. In addition, the book contains general information about botanical characteristics, assortment and economic value. The organization of the greenhouse, labor and planning are also discussed. The books are printed on demand and are available for € 59 at the Development Center. The other publications of the Bollenacademie are also for sale in the webshop of the Development Center.
