Tulip season kicks off in the Netherlands

Saturday 19 January is National Tulip Day and the official kick-off of the new tulip season in the Netherlands. On this day, multiple Dutch tulip growers will transform the Dam in Amsterdam into a pick-your-own tulip garden.

Flower Power
This edition’s picking garden in Amsterdam is themed ‘Flower Power’. The colourful landscaping design is certainly flower power worthy. On this day, everyone is welcome to handpick a free bunch of tulips. The flat Dutch winter landscape will be converted into a sea of colour as from that moment.

Selection
The tulip is one of the most renowned spring flowers and has only increased in popularity among consumers over the past few years. The selections from FleuraMetz Preferred Suppliers A&P Flowers, Triflor and Maatschap Breg offer customers a wide variety.

The products of Niels Kreuk are MPS GAP certified, while Laan Tulips curated a line of exclusive Black label varieties. Dirk Haakman grows his flowers in soil; not for mass production but for their specialty, heavier grade tulip bunches.

Looking for mixed bunches? A&P Flowers mix their tulips directly after cutting for super fresh quality. Extraordinary flower shapes is Triflor’s signature, who manages the complete growing process from bulb to plant in-house. Borst Bloembollen bv is specialised in the breeding and introduction of new cultivars. Maatschap Breg grows tulips in water and in potting soil.
