This year farmer Ms. Yulia Shelemekh is planning to expand berry production and start growing cucumbers in the greenhouse

Russia: Karelian farmer is expanding strawberry and tulip production

The entrepreneur has planted 45 tulip bulbs of 23 varieties for the season. She also grows garden strawberries. This year Ms. Shelemekh is planning to expand the berry production to 12 ha and 35 varieties. When warmer weather sets in, Ms. Shelemekh is going to plant cucumbers on the acreage of 400 square meters.

In 2018, the entrepreneur made use of the state subsidies in replacing the expenses on acquiring the equipment and machinery as well as on the preparation and conducting of irrigation and technical measures and purchasing fertilizers.

This year, Ms. Shelemekh is also going to take part in the completion for the state subsidies for the support of small and middle-scale business. The farmer has purchased the equipment for strawberry cultivation and is going to acquire freezers.
