"New poinsettia series meets all the demands for heat tolerance"

It was the need for a new adventure that led Steve Rinehart – a long-time manager at the Ecke Ranch in Encinitas, California – to introduce a new Poinsettia series, that meets all the demands for heat tolerance and of a modern cultivation for this challenging crop.

In 2013 he puts all his effort and knowledge into his series and came out in 2015 with the first 3 varieties that are ready for the market. He partnered with Vivero Internacional to build up mother stock for unrooted cuttings out of Mexico. Since then his varieties are constantly increasing in sales and are accepted by a lot of growers all over the United States.

Experts appreciate the vibrant clear colors, especially seen in the white selections and the heat resistance in the varieties from Rinehart Poinsettias, according to Dominik Neisser of Vivero Internacional.

Let’s take a look at the varieties that are available from the Rinehart Series:

Pepita 257

"This variety is perfect for 4 to 6.5-inch containers. The plant height reaches 12 to 15 inch after a pinch. This makes it ideal for smaller presentations. The short nodes and vigor side branching habit guarantee a round and full growth with bracts that cover the entire surface. With this branching habit it also keeps the branch breakage at a minimum."

Pure White 619

"This white flowering variety finishes very early in week 47/48. The dark foliage is a strong contrast to the clear white flowers. This variety grows vigorous and gets up to 23 inch high. This variety is best for 6 to 8-inch pots. Early growth regulator application is advised."

The heat resistant and the tolerance to low light conditions of the north, made this variety popular.

Legacy 874

"Very strong vigor growth habit. Legacy builds a strong stem with big vibrant red bracts. It can be used for unpinched single stems in big containers. 3 plants in a 14 to 16-inch pot, makes an impressive presentation. It also can be pinched and will build up to 4 side shoots for a shorter finish."

New in 2019
And then there are three new varieties for 2019. Trial quantities are yet available, they will be in full production in 2020.

Rinehart Variety 436

"436 finishes best in a 6-inch pot. The growth habit leads to a medium size plant height, that does not require growth regulator treatments during the crops. This new variety is an early bloomer and can be sold from week 47 to week 48. In the southern trials, 436 shined out of the crowed with its high heat tolerance and very strong stem structure."

Experimental 529

"In week 49 the 529 comes to bloom and is ready for market. This variety is vigorous and best for 6 to 8 inch production. The bright red colored bracts give this plant a classic Christmas look. The fast growth habit allow a late crop start and growth regulator is recommended for small pot size crops."

Jack Frost 1384

"The shorter version of the pure white bract assortment from Rinehart. 4 to 6-inch pots size is ideal for this new variety. With a more compact habit than Pure White, growers have now two good tools to supply an exceptional white flowering Poinsettia to their customers. Jack Frost showed in trials a very high heat tolerance."

Rinehart Poinsettias are available at most broker networks. Cuttings are available from May 22 to August 25 2019 from Vivero Internacional Mexico.
