Turkey: Viola seeds from Bursa exported to all over the world

Women from villages in Bursa are growing viola seeds and export them to a company in the Netherlands which markets and sells them to 15 countries. The price of seeds varies between 500 USD and 15,000 USD per kg depending on the quality and other technical specifications. Growers grow around 25 varieties of viola in 15 villages around Orhaneli district of Bursa.

It takes around 5 months in greenhouses to grow these seeds and growers receive around 1 kg of viola seeds from 100 pots.

Women growers indicate that the job is very much enjoyable for them as they like to take care of flowers and plants and that they usually come to the greenhouse first thing in the morning to take care of the seeds. They also note that they are earning very good money by seed production and export and are planning to continue to expand their production in the future.
