How does Royal FloraHolland make the marketplace more sustainable?

The sustainability mission of Royal FloraHolland is a future-proof floriculture industry, in which flowers and plants are grown and traded with respect for people and the environment. Making the process more sustainable also presents opportunities. The demand for sustainable products continues to increase and growers can distinguish themselves from others by responding to this market demand.

With regard to Royal FloraHolland's sustainability ambitions the "Sustainability Development Goals (SDG's) of the UN are our guidelines. We chose and named seven of these goals for 2019. There is much to tell; I will limit myself to two subjects, namely Energy and Packaging", said Royal FloraHolland's Sustainability Manager Piet Briƫt.

CO2-neutral energy consumption in 2025
"One of the big themes that are prominent within the industry, and in our marketplace as well, is energy transition. I'm referring to the phasing out of fossil fuels and the reduction of CO2 emissions in favor of sustainable alternatives. For our type of business the CO2 footprint is more or less equal, as in 1 on 1, to our energy consumption. After the zero measurement, we will work on an energy transition plan with a CO2-neutral energy consumption in 2025 as one of the goals."
