The PLC is a small but important part of the Meto Spray Trolley. Without a Programmable Logic Controller, as this part is called, the spray trolley will not work. Steenks is the supplier of these spray trolleys, and a year and a half ago they were informed by the manufacturer that the production of PLCs for the Meto spray trolleys from before May 2011 was discontinued. They quickly came up with a solution. This resulted in an in-house developed conversion kit that can replace the broken down PLC quickly and efficiently.

Quick replacement necessary
“If a pipe rail trolley does not work, you can quickly replace it with another trolley. After all, there are often more of those in the company," Paul Vijverberg explains. “With a spray trolley, quick replacement is a lot harder. You don't just have a new one available. Add to this the fact that the spray trolley is used more and more intensively over the years. Around 400 Meto spray trolleys with this type of PLC are used worldwide. Most of them are taken to De Lier once a year for maintenance. And when they are abroad? They are then sent here or we support their own technical service by telephone with maintenance on location. But of course, such a PLC only breaks down when you need it."
Still good for years
The conversion kit that Steenks developed has been available for a month now. It consists of another PLC with cabling and a touch screen. “The kit can be exchanged one-on-one with the old PLC. When the spray trolley is not in use, we are there to replace the PLC with the conversion kit. That means that there is no need to replace the spray trolley and the grower can continue his work with a trolley that is still good for many years."
