US: New heucherella provides year-round 'Peach tea' color

As with all of Terra Nova Nurseries’ varieties, Heucherella ‘Peach tea’ was conceived through ingenious flower breeding and tireless laboratory research. With 25 different varieties of heucherella, Terra Nova has been dedicated to innovation by way of genetics; each variety is bred to flourish in some of the more intense summer environments of the United States, while still maintaining its habit and clean flowers on short spikes.

Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ has large peachy-red leaves that contrast with its cream white flowers. This plant is vigorous and compact while also offering a glow of daintiness to the landscape. Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ works well in a container, in a mass-planting, in the American Deep South, and keeps borders clean. The perennial can provide year-round color, even in the winter. It also provides summer color and is very consumer-friendly.

“Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ is unique, in that, the spring foliage it produces creates a very interesting, guava-juice orange and yellow color,” said Chuck Pavlich, director of new product development at Terra Nova Nurseries. “Also, because of the large, maple-shaped leaves, there is a noticeably distinct gloss on the leaves.”

This variety is attractive to growers given its ability to fill out containers quickly, and it is easy to grow, making it equally attractive to consumers. Disease resistant, rust-resistant and healthy, the Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ forms a mounding habit and is a fast grower. It is also a larger variety, with a mature plant height of 12”, a width of 22” and an extended flower height of 17”.

Preferring an average amount of water, Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ requires more moisture than heuchera. The perennial also prefers well-drained, hummus rich soils, and it is a full- and partial-shade variety.

Heucherella ‘Peach Tea’ made its first appearance at California Spring Trials in March 2019, followed by an appearance at Cultivate 2019 in Columbus, Ohio.
