October 2-4, Zundert

Netherlands: Local tea at international trade fair GrootGroenPlus

For the 29th edition of trade fair, GrootGroenPlus decided to cooperate with Johan Jansen of Special Plant Zundert. He developed the first Dutch tea: the JOAN dutch tea maker tea collection. This tea comes from tea plantations in Zundert; where the international trade fair for tree nurseries will be hosted as well, from 2 - 4 October 2019.

Sustainably grown tea
Johan Jansen’s tea, made by his company Tea by Me, is sustainably grown. He got the idea 12 years ago, when he travelled through China. He noticed that almost all tea originates from one plant, which is mainly grown in Asia. It will take approximately 5 months to bring the tealeaves to Europe; that is not very good for the quality, the flavour, or the environment. That is why he decided to grow his own plants. After working on this for eight years, he finally succeeded in growing the first tea plant in Europe.

Nowadays, he offers multiple flavours and you can even buy your own tea plants, which will help consumers create their own fresh, high-quality tea. But if that is taking things a bit too far, you can also just enjoy the tea at trade fair GrootGroenPlus. The tea was awarded the third prize and received the prestigious Gourmet star at the Teas of the World Contest in Paris. And thanks to numerous hybrids, the plant has been developed into a species that is suitable for all countries in Europe.

Unique cooperation
The cooperation between the producer and the trade fair is really unique. This is the first Dutch tea, which will be offered at an entire trade fair, for the first time. At the beginning of October, all participants and visitors can enjoy a cup of tea from Zundert. Locally grown, produced on the spot: clean, sustainable, fresh, and honest.

At the trade fair, you can enjoy three different flavours. Six flavours are available in the central coffee corners, the pressroom, and the restaurant. This includes the Zundert tea (of course: with strawberries, another specialty from Zundert), and the Van Gogh tea, named after the famous painter who was born in Zundert.

Teahouse
This year’s slogan is Great in Green, and there is always room for green innovations. That is why the trade fair is very proud of Johan, who succeeded in a local production of a hardy Camellia sinensis. Tea sommelier Anne uses the leaves of this plant to create a lovely, fresh, high-quality tea. Tea, filled with positive qualities that improve general health. Back to basic with the power of Mother Nature.

A teahouse will be created in the central restaurant. This teahouse will host tastings and present the craft of creating tea. On stage and in the pressroom, more information will be given regarding these special plants. And of course, these activities will be included in the trade fair program, which will be available in the free trade fair app soon.
