Genap focuses on local production

"If you want to grow sustainably, local presence is a must"

There is a worldwide call and necessity to store water. Genap, supplying water storage tanks to the agricultural and horticultural sector for ages, notices an increase in the demand and therefore focuses increasingly on local production. In November, production in Kenya started, while another production facility is constructed in India.

Lost rainwater
While growers in Europe carefully store water in silos, farmers and growers in East Africa and Asia often do not have these means. Dick van Regteren of Genap explains: "They sometimes have concrete tanks or a hole in the ground filled with a layer of clay to keep the water from flowing away." It is always a special moment for him when he encounters one of these water storage tanks during one of his trips all over the world. "There is rainfall in those areas, but often a lot in a short time. A lot of water is lost because of this. Our steel water tanks with waterproof foil make it possible to store as much water as possible to use for irrigating crops at a later period. The water is purified and if possible, we make the tanks off-grid by making use of solar collectors."

Van Regteren: "We build water storage tanks in almost unreachable places."

Local production
Although Genap has its base of operations in 's-Heerenberg in the Netherlands, the company chooses to produce locally. "If you want to grow sustainably in the future, local presence is a must. 'Think global, act local', we call this. We do this by setting up joint ventures with local parties. They know the market and we bring our products and knowledge." After the production facilities in Kenya and India, North and South America will follow in the future.
