CAN (ON): Fernlea Flowers celebrates 80 years

Fernlea Flowers, a third-generation family-owned and operated company, celebrates 80 years of growing great gardens.

Founded in 1939 by Lloyd and Mary Veit, Fernlea took root in 2 greenhouses filled with vegetables and branched out to cut flowers with the opening of their first flower shop in Delhi, ON. This was followed by 11 other retail outlets between Ottawa and London.

By the time Lloyd and Mary’s daughter Virginia and her husband Joe Howe took over in 1974, Fernlea had expanded to a 16-acre facility and had begun to focus on the wholesale side of the business.

Today Fernlea is still a family run business with President Jeff Howe at the helm. The company employs 900 people during peak season with more than 200 acres of production space at their locations in Delhi, ON, Florida and California combined, distributing high-quality product to the world’s largest retailers across North America. With constant growth and expansion, Fernlea provides continuous employment opportunities at all levels within the organization.

Fernlea has maintained its position as an industry innovator throughout the years with their marketing of branded products such as Rio dipladenias, Hawaiian Punch Hibiscus, Harvesthyme Veggies & Herbs, Capri Petunias, Awesome Accents and more.
