Metrolina Greenhouses keeps on growing

Metrolina Greenhouses keeps on growing. A new 40-acre greenhouse is well underway. “We have our own construction crew so we are able to build it ourselves from the ground up. The new space will increase production by at least 7%”, says Julie Colon, Communications Manager for Metrolina.

The greenhouse will fully be operational in February for Spring production. “We will use the new greenhouse to expand production of the items we already grow, but it will accommodate more of our larger sized containers”, Julie explains.

“We are always striving to meet and exceed our growing customer needs. We are continuing to expand our product range that we supply to our customers to provide full service for annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs as well as tropicals.”

State-of-the-art
“The new greenhouse will be state of the art and equipped to accommodate all innovations we currently use in several other greenhouses. This includes an automated roof system, crane systems for moving tables, floor flooding for efficient and sustainable water use (we recapture, clean and reuse all water supply to the greenhouses), robotic sticking machines, as well as new production and shipping barns.”

Continuing to expand
Once this project is completed, the total acreage of indoor growing space at the location in Huntersville, North Carolina, will be approximately 210 acres under glass. Metrolina Greenhouses has also a facility in York, South Carolina, where they grow perennials. Once this project in Huntersville is finished, they will start to add about 200 acres of outdoor growing space in York.
