"Most members are aware of the necessity to have all suppliers on board with regard to obtaining digital environmental registration and certification by the end of 2020, reports Royal FloraHolland. "They also believe that postponement is not an option. This was clear from the discussions with members during the member sessions in the Netherlands and abroad in June.

Members: make it easy and affordable
During the member sessions, we discussed with the members how, and within what time frame, we as a cooperative can help all members to obtain an environmental certificate. It emerged that the majority of the members supported the ambition for everyone to obtain the environmental certificate by the end of 2020. At the same time, there are concerns regarding the feasibility of realizing this goal within this period. Members stress the importance of simplicity, low costs, guidance, good communication and sufficient capacity of the certification authorities.
Royal FloraHolland has indicated its willingness to help its members realize this. The collaboration with other chain partners plays a crucial role in this. The input from the member sessions will be used for the road map aimed at getting all members on board.
Discussing the cooperative with 370 members
We organize the member sessions to reinforce the dialogue between members and the company. In June, a total of 370 growers came to the member sessions in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Kenya, Ethiopia and Israel at the invitation of the Members' Council. There were four central components during these meetings: an open discussion round among the members, an update from the MT regarding the strategic course and the annual accounts, the proposed changes to the composition within the RvC, and the feasibility of environmental certification for all suppliers. In the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, the focus was mainly on that last issue. The sessions with the members in Israel, Kenya and Ethiopia had a program that focused largely on local issues.

The Members' Council is a sparring partner for the Management Board regarding cooperative themes. To fulfil this role successfully, it is essential for the Members' Council to consult continuously with the members in order to stay updated on recent developments. The input from the member sessions forms an important basis for the discussions between the Members' Council and the Management Board throughout the year.
