Several introductions planned

Floritec makes headway in South American market

Floritec will be present at the Proflora in Colombia, October 2-4, with its own stand - and with good reason. "We're introducing a lot of new varieties, ones that are new in our range, as well as varieties that are new for South America, Ruud Smit says.

"Recently we've extensively tested many varieties at our trial location in Colombia: santini, spraymums, and disbuds. It turns out that quite a few varieties are suitable for Colombian cultivation circumstances. In week 35, we hosted our open days, welcoming a lot of growers and purchasers. Based on the feedback we got, we've been able to make a lot of decisions, and we determined the novelties for the coming year. These will be presented at the Proflora - we'll introduce over 30 varieties, 20 of which are actually new to the South American market.

Some examples, along with pictures:

Daytona, a heavy white spray chrysanthemum with a green heart, which is very suitable for painting. "We've tested these extensively, and it turns out to absorb paint very well. There's a big market for that in Colombia."

Solimar, a decorative spray chrysanthemum with an intense yellow color. Features many flowers per branch, which flower nice and uniformly.

Vamp, a single-flower, bright pink spray chrysanthemum

The santini isn't grown a lot in South America yet. In Europe, the Calimero range has been known for a while now, but now it will also be introduced in Colombia (in all 9 colors)

Ruud Smit, whose work at Floritec includes marketing, will also be present, along with his colleague, local area manager Juan Naranjo.
