US: 6-BA PGR formulation now available to ornamental growers

Through the launch of CytoFlor to the horticulture market, a formulation of the PGR 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) is now labeled for use on ornamental plants. Produced by Valent BioSciences, CytoFlor is made from a PGR formulation that has been in use in the agriculture industry for many years. Valent BioSciences’ proprietary formulation has much more rapid absorption into the leaf, which reduces runoff and assures faster delivery and more thorough and efficient plant utilization of the active ingredient.

6-BA, the active ingredient in CytoFlor, is an essential plant hormone for the growth and overall development of plants. 6-BA promotes cell division and differentiation in plant roots and shoots and by applying this plant hormone, growers can harness these natural processes to gain greater control over the growth and habit of many ornamental plants. By promoting cell division, application of CytoFlor during vegetative growth can increase lateral or basal branching to create more compact and marketable plants. Application of CytoFlor can also increase flower bud formation when applied during the reproductive stage through its promotion of cell differentiation.

Key ornamental crops that can benefit from CytoFlor include Christmas Cactus, Hosta spp., containerized annual and perennial flowering and foliage crops, containerized tropical plants, non-edible plants and non-bearing fruit trees, and ornamental apple and pear trees.

CytoFlor is for professional use only and is not available for retail purchase. Beginning in Fall 2019, professional horticulture distributors will be receiving their first shipments of CytoFlor.
