In the last few years, Arend Cactus has experienced significant growth. At the end of 2017, the grower took over the cactus cultivation of Gebr. v.d. Burg. Then a second location was acquired, a more than 2 ha greenhouse around the corner in Berkel en Rodenrijs. A large assortment of plants in pot sizes 12 and 15 centimeters are being grown there, while the propagation, cuttings production, and rooting, for own production and customers, takes place in Bleiswijk.
Hans, Laura, Sam and Annemiek
Arendcactus is a real family company. Around 60 years ago, Leo van der Arend started a tomato nursery in Berkel en Rodenrijs. In the nineties, a gradual switch was made to breeding and nursing of cacti and succulents, and meanwhile, the younger generations stepped in. The nursery is now led by son Hans and his wife Annemiek. Since 2016, they have been joined by their children Sam and Laura.
On 4.5 hectares, more than 7 million cacti/succulents produced per year, in more than 100 different varieties, in a manner as sustainable as possible: with a completely closed water system, making use of green energy as much as possible (rest heat and own solar panels are used), and if possible, with organic crop protection. The nursery also offers some jobs to people who have been out of the running for a long time and find it hard to get employment.
The latest news is that this can now also be read online. It was time for a (new) website, and nowadays one must be able to be found online. For the assortment and more information about the nursery, you can visit www.arendcactus.nl
