Australian growers urged to participate in 2019 Statistics survey

Collection for the 2019 Nursery Industry Statistics survey is underway.

During the month of November, production nurseries are urged to make an appointment to participate in the voluntary survey, if called upon.

The independent research agency leading the survey, Down To Earth Research (DTER), are aiming to interview around 300 production nurseries nationwide.

The interviews collect key business data in order to produce a reliable and accurate snapshot of the size, value, production and employment in Australia’s nursery industry.

By collating key business data, production nurseries will be able to make more informed business planning and resourcing decisions and monitor industry trends. The data collected will also be used to inform the development of the business-benchmarking tool.

At this stage survey progress has been steady, resulting in over half of the 300 required interviews being completed. During the final 3 weeks of the survey period, the DTER team will reach out to growers not already completing a survey.

The need for industry data featured heavily at last week’s Strategic Plan Workshop for Greenlife Industry Australia with key industry stakeholders acknowledging that data was the key to strong advocacy for greenlife. Greater participation will produce a clearer picture of the economic and social contribution of Australia’s thriving nursery industry.

As we enter the final weeks of collection, the team at Down to Earth Research ask that growers keep their interview appointments.

Check out the below tips for how to best prepare, to ensure interviews are competed on time:

  1. Put the appointment in your diary or email calendar so you do not forget.
  2. Nominate the best person in your business to respond to the survey.
  3. Make sure you’re aware of what information you’re asked to provide and have it in front of you before you start the survey, or email your completed survey directly to: daniel@dter.com.au.
  4. Keep your data in a secure place – it will come in handy down the track!

Please note all data collected is anonymous and confidential.
