A sparkling star during the dark days of winter

When most houseplants are hibernating, Amaryllis seizes its opportunity and towers above all its fellows, stately and radiant.

The Amaryllis, also known as Hippeastrum, makes an excellent house companion. Grown from a bulb, the Amaryllis is originally a Mexican and Caribbean plant. Whatever its origins, it will have little trouble setting up home in your living room.

Gebr van der Velden grows Amaryllis in many varieties and rich earthy colours. This houseplant’s big feature is its changing appearance. A bulb produces a stately hollow stem on which smooth buds develop. These open into voluminous calyxes with velvety petals in white, salmon, red, pink or even green.

Amaryllis symbolizes pride in the best sense of the word, but also enchanting beauty.
