Turkish growers set sight on export

Turkish cut flower and ornamental plant growers have set their export target at 125 million USD for the year 2019, and the prominent growers will all meet and demonstrate their products at the Eurasia Plant Fair / Flower Show 2019.

The Flower Show / Eurasia Plant Fair opened its doors at the Tüyap Fair Convention and Congress Center in Istanbul, yesterday. At this 11th edition, a total of 16,500 buyers are expected to discover all kinds of plant and landscape products. On 16,054 square meters, around 200 companies are presenting their products and services till November 16.

200 companies
Eurasia Plant Fair / Flower Show is said to be the biggest and most prominent plant and landscape event in Eurasia and the 200 companies are presenting a wide range of landscaping solutions, from flower varieties to indoor and outdoor ornamental plants, from seedlings and seeds to vertical gardening applications, and from exotic trees to irrigation equipment and garden accessories. The fair organizers also expect many buyers from municipalities, construction and landscaping companies, hotels, retailers and DIY markets both from within the country and from abroad to visit the exhibition.

Focus on export markets
Speaking to the press, Turkish Growers Association (SUSBIR) President Ahmet Dundar talked about the event. Ahmet Dundar: “The fair is very important for our industry which creates jobs for nearly 80,000 people directly and 500,000 indirectly. It is a big opportunity for our growers to have such a fair organized in Istanbul. Currently, the focus of our growers is export markets due to the decline in domestic markets. Especially the cutbacks in municipality budgets forced our growers to direct their efforts to international markets. That is why these fairs are an important gateway for our growers to get in contact with international buyers and export their products.”

Brings industry together
"It is one of the most important addresses that bring our industry together. This fair is of great importance in order for our companies to expand overseas, to show their products to new buyers and thus to increase export’’, said Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association Chairman Ismail Yılmaz in a previously published article. As a union, they provided the fair to become one of the fairs supported by the Ministry of Commerce. In his statement, Yılmaz also shared that in the scope of this year’s Flower Show Istanbul / Eurasia Plant Fair, they also organized a purchasing delegation to ensure that the participating companies meet the purchasers.

Contests, panels and seminars
For the last 2 months, growers have been preparing for the fair which has become a staple for the industry. This year the fair will feature contests for visitors in addition to the panels and seminars where the issues of the industry will be discussed.

2018 edition
In 2018, the Fair featured 163 exhibitors from 11 countries and hosted 15,000 visitors from 52 countries, welcoming a record level of 88.5% new visitors. This year, 16,500 visitors are expected.
