Japanese poinsettia growers busy before holiday season

Farmers in Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo, are busy shipping potted poinsettias ahead of the holiday season.

Shipments of the species with red and green foliage, also known as the Christmas Flower, are now at their peak in the city of Iruma.

Takayuki Shino is growing about 60,000 poinsettias, comprising 15 varieties.

The poinsettias will be shipped to markets in Tokyo and other locations. Shipments will continue until around late December.
