US (TN): Hermann Holtkamp Greenhouses receives MPS-A+ certificate

From now on, Hermann Holtkamp Greenhouses belongs to the select group of growers that hold the MPS-A+ status. Director and owner Reinhold Holtkamp Jr. received the certificate from MPS-coordinator North and Central America Arthij van de Veer at Cultivate’19.

Hermann Holtkamp Greenhouses, an MPS member since 1 January 2018, was founded in 1904 in Germany and later in 1977 made the move to Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The company is part of the Optimara Group and they are mostly known for growing the Optimara African Violets.

Sustainability involvement
Sustainability has always been a part of the company. Therefore, it was no more than logical to become certified as a sustainable company by an organisation as MPS, which is recognized in the industry and helps set the bar for being a more sustainable operation. The fact that MPS has made a commitment in building its brand in the USA was also an important factor to choose MPS.

Although they have not been directly approached by their customers, the company felt taking an active approach ahead of time was much better than being asked and then start the process. “Doing it ahead of time rather than being asked to do it, shows the true commitment to sustainability of a company”, says Holtkamp.
