Germany: Kowert GmbH filed for bankruptcy

Kowert GmbH, a renowned company in gardening and landscaping, has filed for bankruptcy. On December 10, 2019, the Bielefeld District Court ordered the preliminary proceedings regarding the company's assets and ordered Dr. Stephan Thiemann from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH to provisional insolvency administrator.

Together with the PLUTA team, which includes lawyer Christoph Chrobok and graduate business lawyer Tim Austmeyer, the expert is already on site and checks the financial situation of the traditional company. “The garden center is very well known in Bielefeld and benefits from the many years of experience of the management and employees. In the first few days we had discussions with business partners that were positive, ”said PLUTA expert Dr. Thiemann.

Liquidity difficulties are due to the application. Those responsible informed the 24 employees and four trainees at a meeting. The salaries of the employees are secured by the bankruptcy money. The aim of the PLUTA experts is to give the company a future perspective. Dr. Thiemann adds: “Despite the application, the business will continue without restrictions. Customers can continue shopping in the garden center. The Christmas market is open."

Managing Director Detlef Kowert says: “We will provide the provisional insolvency administrator with the best possible support in this challenging time. Our dedicated employees deserve that the garden center has a future. ”

Kowert GmbH operates the garden center of the same name in Bielefeld. The company offers a large selection of high-quality garden accessories, garden furniture and fountains as well as model gardens to view. The qualified employees also have extensive experience in gardening and landscaping. The company's origins go back to 1905. Gustav and Wilhelmine Kowert had been farming and growing field vegetables for 100 years. In 1970 Heinrich Kowert opened the first garden center in East Westphalia, in 2004 the company was converted into what is now the Kowert garden center. Detlef Kowert has been the sole managing director since 2014.
