Turkish florists aim to export 125 million USD worth of products

The Turkish Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association aims for an export value of 110 million USD (98.95 million Euro) by the end of the year and has already set the goal for 2020 as 125 million USD (112.44 million Euro).

The association's President Ismail Yilmaz said that in 2018 the exports of ornamental plants and cut flowers reached a total value of 99.3 million USD and pointed out the increase in export value this year. He said that there is an increase by 10 to 12% in ornamental plants, outdoor plants and cut flowers compared to 2018.

Increased production due to warm weather
In Antalya area, autumn and winter was warmer than usual and this has led to an increase in production by 30%, said Yilmaz. However, the abundance of plants and flowers led to a decrease in prices, Yilmaz added.

Europe's New Year flowers come from Antalya
Pointing out that Turkey exports 500 million cut flowers per year, Yilmaz shared further details:

"Since the first day of New Year we exported 34 million USD (30.58 million Euro) worth of products. By the end of the year this number will reach 37 to 38 million USD (33.28 to 34.18 million Euro). The total exports to the largest markets of cut flowers; the Netherlands, the UK and Germany reached 70 million USD (62.97 million Euro) in 2019 so far. We sent the last products as well. New Year flowers of these countries are exported from Antalya. We will earn 7 million USD (6.30 million Euro) from New Year's flower exports."
