Netherlands: Amevo enters the new year digitally

As of January 1st this year, Amevo has been completely redesigned. A new look, a new logo and a new website with webshop are combined with a general digitization. "We are experiencing considerable growth," says director Folke van Dorp. "We also have a wide range of products and can serve many different customers. We would like to show that."

Amevo is not the largest player in the market of horticultural suppliers, but has several specialisms of its own and entrances into specific markets. "We are represented in all departments of horticulture," says Folke. "We work for horticulturists, growers and also many breeders. And occasionally at garden centres. Older generations will probably know us from the Amevo frog and the plastic ponds, but nowadays we have mainly made a name for ourselves with our binding materials, netting and cloths, labelling systems for breeders, and our wide range of bamboo products, including the well-known Bambini to which we have design rights."

That Bambini is a story in itself. It is a bamboo plug on which a label can be clicked, which was developed about twelve years ago in collaboration with the Groningen plant grower Smit Kwekerijen. "Bamboo is sustainable, much more durable than plastic, but plastic was not such an issue back then. Now you see this bamboo label plug everywhere and it has become a really big product for us. We supply it to growers and printers all over Europe."

Sustainable alternatives
The focus on sustainable products has gradually become more and more. In addition to bamboo, Amevo supplies many natural products: biodegradable binding materials, biodegradable tape, biodegradable ground cover, etc. "We are looking for products in which we can be unique. New products are often 'created' at the request of a customer who is looking for a specific solution. Often these are sustainable alternatives and innovations and we like to think along with them. The question may actually encompass anything, as long as it's horticultural related and of course we see potential financial benefits in it.

"We are a financially healthy and energy-neutral company and have 10 employees on the road. We also distinguish ourselves by maintaining a large stock and our aim is to always deliver within 24 hours in our largest markets, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Exports are smaller but not unimportant; some products, such as the BambiniĀ®, go all over the world. Conversely, we also import many of our products from all over the world, from edge boundaries from the US to bamboo from Asia."

Less catalog printing, more online webshop
The first noticeable change for Amevo was already felt at the end of last year. The paper catalogue, which was sent annually to some 90,000 addresses, now remained in the printer. "We're actually only sending it digitally. Only buying customers and people who necessarily want it get it in the mailbox. We want to print fewer catalogues and send our customers more and more to our new webshop. The webshop will make ordering our entire range even easier for the customer. Because also for orders via the webshop the following applies of course: Products that are in stock and have been ordered before noon will be delivered the next working day.''
