Asda sees flower sales increase by 43% over International Women’s Day

Ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March 2020, Asda has revealed that in 2019 the retailer saw sales of flowers spike by 43% over the corresponding weekend, as Brits chose to celebrate their favourite females with flowers.

In recent years, IWD has significantly grown in popularity, so much so that Asda predicted sales in 2020 would see an even bigger increase, with over 20,000 bunches expected to be sold over the weekend.

Shamma Mohammed, Category Planning Manager for Produce said: “While there are multiple ways you can celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s clear that many of us want to celebrate the inspirational woman or women in their life by gifting them with flowers.”

“This year, there’s an array of bouquets to pick, from bright and bold Chrysanthemums to beautiful bunches made of roses, chrysanthemums and gerberas, giving customers even more choice when it comes to celebrating their favourite females.”
