Interplant Roses B.V. is a family owned company who have been breeding roses for the Dutch and international markets for over 60 years. Well known for their cut rose varieties, especially spray roses, Interplant also has a very strong presence in the garden rose segment. Babylon Eye’s, which are part of Interplants garden rose program, have become increasingly popular over the past few years and now with the introduction of more colours to this range Interplant have high hopes for the future of this product.
Babylon Eye’s success is due to them being distinctively different from other products in the market. These ‘eye roses’ can be recognized by their eye-catching centre which has a wonderful contrasting colour to the outer petal. With their mass of blooms, continuous flowering, rainbow of colours, lush green foliage, compact bushes and strong disease resistance Babylon Eyes Roses are suited for multiple use in flowerbeds, pots, containers and hanging baskets.
Meanwhile, after the initial introduction of the Babylon Eyes Roses a few years ago, the assortment has improved considerably. This has resulted in an increased worldwide demand for the product. The Babylon Eyes varieties have been tested and proved well suited for pot culture, which is a strong asset. Furthermore, the Babylon Eyes Roses can be used for cutting and budding/grafting.
Producing any worthwhile rose is a journey of many steps. The first round of selection takes place when seedlings first come into flower, after which they go through multiple selections as the ever decreasing number of contestants are moved outdoors where the trialing continues. Finally, only a few candidates are left to be judged by some designated growers and end consumers. When both growers and end consumers are satisfied and positive about the qualities of each product they will be launched into the market. At present, the growers ‘Gebr. Seuren Roses’ in Lottum and ‘Jac. Verschuren Pechtold’ in Haps are successful Dutch growers of this lovely range.
Over the past years, many varieties of the Babylon Eyes range have won awards, namely at the International Rose Competition ‘Concours’ in The Hague (Netherlands), but also at other renowned competitions in Italy, Germany, France and Spain.
