US (NC): A glimpse into growing poinsettias at Metrolina Greenhouses

Even in November it's starting to feel a little like Christmas around  Metrolina Greenhouses in Huntersville, NC, as the poinsettias keep turning more and more red in the greenhouse. Here's a quick look into the journey they go through before they get to their final homes for the holidays.

In July, Metrolina Greenhouses starts production on 4.4 million poinsettias for Christmas. The cuttings come from El Salvador and when they arrive, they are stuck in pots and watered and then sent to the greenhouse where they will grow till finished plants.

Metrolina Greenhouses is a family-owned, wholesale and services company, founded in 1972. Metrolina is said to be the largest single-site, heated greenhouse (over 160 acres) in the U.S.
