Moldova: Tulips grow in water in Bardar greenhouses

Tulips started blooming in the middle of winter in Bardar village of Yalovensky region. The growers have been using a new technology, which enabled faster flower development.

Gregory Tonu’s greenhouses can boast about 30 thousand tulips. About 300 have already started blooming. “In Moldova, according to our information, the first tulips appeared in the end of December”.

This year the grower has implemented a new technology. The bulbs are planted not in soil but in water. “The advantage is that we do not work with soil, which takes a lot of effort. Water is a lot more manageable”.

Within this period, the tulips cost about 2.46 euro per piece. “Actually, the net profit from each flower comprises 0.2-0.4 euro”. In flower shops, tulips are twice as expensive, too costly for the customers.
