AmeriSeed presents Torenia “Vertigo” series

New Torenia series that will survive the hot summer garden conditions

Historically, Torenia varieties prefer shady conditions, however, AmeriSeed breeding has produced a Torenia variety with the ability to tolerate heat, disease and humidity enabling plants to survive hot summer garden conditions. The series named Torenia “Vertigo” was launched in 2021 and is available in 5 colors.

Named after the Alfred Hitchcock film “Vertigo”
The series was named after the Alfred Hitchcock film “Vertigo” part of which was produced at the Mission of San Juan Bautista, California, explains Beam Sailern Senhuk marketing director at this vegetable and flower seed production company. AmeriSeed planned to introduce this unique series during CAST 2020 held at The Speedling young plant production facility, San Juan Bautista. Unfortunately, 2020 CAST was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the ensuing travel restrictions in America.

Trialed under extreme heat and humidity
Torenia “Vertigo” is an entirely new F1 Torenia, and is ideally suited to hot, humid, tropical, sub-tropical, summer growing conditions. "All breeding and selection work has been carried out under the extreme heat and humidity of the AmeriSeed research facilities in Northern Thailand," Senkhun explains.

First flowering – Vertigo as a table centerpiece

Ideal for pot and landscape production
Therefore, it is an ideal plant for pot and landscape production. "“Vertigo” can be used for borders, indoor and outdoor pot plants and table centerpieces. It is a low maintenance variety producing many bright colored flowers that can be enjoyed for at least 3 months under Spring, Summer and Autumn/Fall conditions."

Compact with large flowers and does not fade
Torenia Vertigo has a compact habit, large flowers that bloom well in the sun. Plants have a continuous flowering habit and glossy green foliage. "The large blooms do not fade even when exposed to strong sunlight," he adds.

Seeds available for trialing
Raw and pelleted seed samples are available directly to growers for trialing purposes. Commercial pelleted seed of mix colors is available now and separate color’s will be available form June 2021 onwards.

Currently trialed in the US and Canada
