The German garden industry had a turnover of 20.7 billion euro in 2020. This is an increase of 9% compared to 2019. This was presented in the annual report of Industrie Verband Garten.

German garden centres and other specialist retailers achieved an additional 9.4% in sales. Sales of garden product sales through DIY stores increased by 16.5%. Online suppliers of garden products increased their turnover by 31.4% to EUR 1.4 billion. Traditional growers and flower traders experienced a small loss in turnover of 0.5%.
DIY stores and garden markets had the largest share of the turnover growth (27.1% compared to 25.4% last year), that of nurseries (direct sales) and florists decreased on the contrary (from 15.1% in 2019 to 13.7% in 2020).
