EZRack, one of the leaders in rental, sales, recovery, and logistics management of environmentally responsible shipping and display systems for the lawn and garden industry, shines a spotlight on its work with Means Nursery, a large wholesale and retail nursery with locations in Oregon, California, and Ohio, with a case study published on its website.
Continuing to work with EZRack for 15+ years, Means Nursery takes advantage of EZRack's rental rack solution to bring approximately 87% of their products to retail, using both long haul trucks and intermodal rail for transport. EZRack's palletized racks maximize the available space in trucks and shipping containers, and provide extra stability for the products loaded onto them. Means Nursery president Steven Greisen says, "With our product mix, we get approximately 12% more per load using EZRacks."
While EZRack has options available for purchasing racks, as well, Means Nursery has found great success with the rental program to service the large scale of their shipping needs. Over a five-year period starting in 2015, Means Nursery rented over 164,000 EZRacks, which were recovered from retailers by EZRack for reuse. That led Means Nursery to save $2.75 million over that time compared to using wooden racks. In addition, their carbon footprint was decreased by nearly 5 million pounds of CO2.
This is indicative of the core mission of EZRack and its parent company, Reusability: to deliver cost savings and sustainability within the supply chain. "We got our start partnering with the nursery industry to move away from wooden, disposable racking and onto reusables with our EZRack, which is now the industry standard for getting plants to retail," said Ned Tomasevic, CEO at Reusability. EZRack currently
services over 10,000+ retailers, dealers, and OEMs throughout the United States and Canada, including The Home Depot, Lowe's, Sam's Club, and Costco.
