Belgium: Gediflora's new breeding greenhouse is taking shape

The new breeding greenhouse of Gediflora is taking shape and in autumn, when the greenhouse will be finished, the chrysanthemums will be planted. The new greenhouses will be equipped with the latest techniques and are being built by Horconex.

Continuously investing in the breeding process
"Gediflora is flourishing like never before. As a family business with ambitious goals, we look to the future with enthusiasm and continually invest in our breeding process, in order to continue doing what we do best: Making our customers successful with our first-class genetics," Gediflora says

Customers and suppliers know the typical West Flemish company slogan:  “Dream, Discover, Dare, Do and Improve”. In order to make their dreams come true, it is time for the company to begin a new chapter. After several months of planning and preparatory work, the time has finally come to take action. "For weeks they have been eager to share the news with the world, but now that the building work has commenced, we can make it official: the building of our long-awaited new breeding greenhouse has officially started. The greenhouse will be built as an extension to the already existing greenhouses and will include not only the breeding greenhouse but also new offices for the breeding team."

Cross-fertilization
"Feedback from customers, together with the many years of experience within R&D team, ensure a unique cross-fertilization that results in an ever-improving product in the long term. In order to fully exploit this dynamic, the new greenhouse has been specially designed for the future. Flexibility, hygiene, sustainability, and respect for people and the environment were the decisive factors in this process."

With this investment, Elien, David, and the Gediflora team are laying the foundations for the future. "A future in which we will continue to invest in the coming years, focusing on our floral DNA, the Mum Flowers. Innovating and inspiring with one clear goal in mind: providing exceptional value to our customers and the product," Elien and David said.

Blackout for chrysanthemum
By nature, a chrysanthemum is an autumn flower, or in other words a "short day plant". This means that the plant will only form a flower bud when the days become shorter. For flowering outside the natural cycle, lighting and black out should be used.

“All six departments can be controlled separately, with Horconex making sure that the screen is completely closed so that absolutely no outside light can get in,” says Marco Kagchelland, manager of Horconex Screen Systems.

Belgium new home market for Horconex
“As the market leader in horticultural greenhouse projects in France and Switzerland, Horconex is ready to introduce Horconex to customers in Belgium. From design to realization, the Horconex team unburdens, advises, designs and realizes a customer-specific solution in which quality and service are central. As a complete project or per part of the project, where our expertise lies in the field of greenhouse construction, screen systems and heating," says Vincent Kuijvenhoven - Commercial Director at Horconex .

In concrete terms
For the curious among us: the building work at Gediflora started in April and the greenhouse has to be finished in the autumn. "So, it’s time to move on. And we are really looking forward to it!"
