13th edition of the Grand Prix de la Rose Edition

Royal Diva Plant 'n'Relax scoops prize in France

On June 3rd, Roses Forever won another prize with one of their garden roses. The so-named 'Prix coup de cæur du jury 2021' went to Royal Diva Plant 'n'Relax. Rose breeder Rosa Eskelund is very excited. "It is the most prestige filled prize you can get for a rose in France", she says. Unfortunately, due to the travel restrictions, she was not able to receive the award in person, so she asked a friend to do the honors in Park De Bagatelle Nord of Paris.

The trial
The award was handed out by the French horticultural society 'Societe Nationale d'Horticulture de France' and on June 3rd, they held their 13th edition of the Grand Prix de la Rose Edition' in which they trial roses from different breeders from all parts of the world. In order to choose the best performing variety, all varieties of all breeders are planted in 7 different parks around in different clime zones in France and are not treated with any chemicals in order to show the healthiness and resistance of a variety. For a period of two years, they are being evaluated by a professional jury.

Award winning variety Royal Diva
The winner is Royal Diva, also known in Denmark under the name, Fru Nørby, a famous actor in Scandinavia, who also baptized the rose. It is a big flowered floribunda rose and won the award because of its health and fragrance, explains Rosa. And since the introduction, it won several awards in Europe. It, for example, was also awarded in Baden-Baden,  Germany, in 2019, in Denmark in 2019, and in Nyon, France, in 2020.
