Bacto-Zyme

Enzymatic degreaser loosens biofilm within seconds

“While biofilm degradation occurs naturally over time, Bacto-Zyme expedites the process to happen within minutes,” says Royal Marty, chief executive officer and owner of Substrata.

Substrata is a Nevada-based biochemical manufacturing company that specializes in the production of enzymatic solutions for industrial purposes including dust suppression, soil stabilization, water treatment and road construction. On July 30, 2021, Substrata announced that its enzymatic microbial cleaner and deodorizer, Bacto-Zyme, is now available for purchase by formulators.

Bacto-Zyme is an enzymatic degreaser and odor eliminator, having proven useful in the horticultural industry for the cleaning of hydroponic equipment during a crop turnover. Unlike conventional surface cleaners, Bacto-Zyme is not toxic thus poses no risk to workers. The fast-acting formulation also allows the user to wipe off biofilm in a matter of minutes, if not seconds, after application.

“Bacto-Zyme eases the surface tension between the biofilm and the surface so that the biofilm can be wiped off easily,” explains Royal.

Bacto-Zyme is formulated with natural, organic enzymes which have a high pH and are effective at emulsifying fatty substances, including biofilm, so that their adherence to gutters, for example, is reduced.

Substrata ships Bacto-Zyme in a very concentrated solution, making it easier to ship the product over long distances. With a recommended dilution rate of 60-80:1, Bacto-Zyme goes a long way.

“Since our products are environmentally friendly and non toxic, we’ve never had any issues with regulatory processes and can export them rather easily,” Royal says.

While most of the company’s horticultural clients using Bacto-Zyme are currently in the US, Substrata has reportedly received interest in the product around the world and looks forward to seeing Bacto-Zyme as part of the global transition towards environmentally responsible food production.
