Buddleja davidii 'Botex 006' (Butterfly Candy Little Ruby) has been named as the Best Novelty of SVB 2021 by the Nursery Trade Fair Foundation (SVB). The plant was submitted by Van Son & Koot bv from Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands.
Van Son & Koot bv submitted a series of compact Buddleja, the Buddleja Butterfly Candy series, for the novelty showcase. The plants bloom beautifully and are filled with neatly presented flowers. Buddleja davidii 'Botex 006' (Butterfly Candy Little Ruby) was awarded gold, partly due to its distinctive deep red flowers, which are exceptional for Buddleja. One general comment by the jury on this series is that it is not clear whether or not the plants are sterile.
Gold, silver, bronze
Only the best novelty was awarded gold by the jury. Buddleja davidii 'Botex 005' (Butterfly Candy Little Pink), also submitted by Van Son & Koot bv, was awarded a silver medal. The jury also awarded 17 bronze medals.
27 plants judged
For this edition of the novelty showcase, 30 novelties were submitted. Of these, 29 entries were accepted for the showcase. In the end, 27 plants were judged. Unfortunately, two participants were forced to withdraw their entries due to unexpected circumstances. The novelties are judged by a professional judging committee from the Royal Society for Boskoop Cultures (KVBC).
The plants that were judged, including of course the Best Novelty, can be seen during the GROEN-Direkt autumn trade fair, which takes place on 25 and 26 August from 7:30 to 16:00 at Noorwegenlaan 37 in Hazerswoude-Dorp, the Netherlands. Presenting the plants here helps attract the attention of international buyers from the public.
Nursery Trade Fair Foundation
The Nursery Trade Fair Foundation aims to promote trade in nursery stock products. Showcasing novelties is an extremely important element of this. That is why the board has decided to offer those in the field an opportunity to present their novelties to buyers through this showcase.
