The Netherlands no longer exports chrysanthemums to the US. Competition from South America proves too strong to make participation profitable, as shown in the annual report of the KCB (Quality Control Bureau).
Since 2013 the Netherlands is allowed to export chrysanthemums to the US. An important condition of the US is that the so-called 'white rust’ (Puccinia horiana) is not present in the chrysanthemum. In 2015, the Protocol was eased slightly so that export inspections were no longer compulsory on the cultivation locations, but at the exporter’s. The KCB provides for these inspections.
The number of participants decreased from nine to three in 2015 and in 2016 from three to none. "The competition from South America proves too strong to make participation profitable”, the KCB notes.
