More absenteeism and 55+ year olds, fewer young people in greenhouse horticulture

The proportion of workers aged 55 and over continues to increase, also in greenhouse horticulture. This has been revealed by the fact sheets on safe, healthy and vital work in the agricultural and green sectors that Stigas has updated.

In contrast to the increase in the number of people aged 55 and over on the payroll, there has been a decline in the number of employees in the 15-24 age group. In the 25-34 and 35-44 categories, the number of employees is increasing.

The picture that emerges from the fact sheets is in line with that in the rest of society. Partly as a result of this, absenteeism continues to rise in the sector.

Given the aging population in greenhouse horticulture, tools for the older workers sometimes come in handy. Stigas itself already developed a tubular rail chair to enable people to do horticultural work while sitting down.
