Trade publication Produce Business is celebrating 35 years by paying tribute to Vanguards who made a difference. J Schwanke is honored to have been chosen as the single Vanguard on the list from the flower industry, so noted for creating the first national television show that focuses on cut flowers, specifically.
The TV show, seen on public television stations (PBS), including Create TV, is called "J Schwanke's Life In Bloom" and has been broadcast continuously since April 2019. Season four is in production and scheduled for an April 2022 debut.
J hosts guest Jennifer Pascua- for Lei making- and Flower Inspired Tropical Cocktails- in Season 4 of "J Schwanke's Life in Bloom" - and even a Hula Lesson.
"It's a 'lifestyle' show centered around flowers – and of course, flowers are my passion," related Schwanke. "I'm honored that Produce Business has recognized this accomplishment, and, as I may not be as well known in the Produce Business circles, I wanted to briefly highlight some aspects of the show."
Flower Inspired Recipes or Flower Cocktails are included each week- on "J Schwanke's Life in Bloom", featured here is Herb Infused Goat Cheese served on Organic Tulip Petals.
"While developing a show about flowers for television, we were encouraged to think of ways to expand the reach of the show by including food, cocktails, travel, crafts, etc. For example, including a cooking or cocktail segment - with, of course, a flower connection or ingredient - is a great way to reach the fan base around cooking shows and cast a flower net around them, so to speak," said Schwanke.
The show features creative flower arranging ideas, such as including fruit or vegetables, "which is something I have enjoyed doing for years, but maybe the consumer has never seen," explained Schwanke.
Flower Arrangements inspired by Italy- feature Sunflowers, Fresh Lemons, Chamomile, and Cottage yarrow- to complete this inspired table setting on "J Schwanke's Life in Bloom".
J Schwanke's Life In Bloom travels to flower farms and events and welcomes guests who share how their interests converge with flowers. "I enjoy interacting with guests and learning about their passions," says Schwanke.
The show likewise expands its reach is through arts and crafts. "Flowers are an obvious muse for so much of life, from architecture details to fine art to fiber arts to your own crafting circle," Schwanke enthuses. "It's always a joy to try my hand at an art or craft project themed to flowers."
J believes that Flowers- do make a difference… in everyone's life- instilling confidence, creating happiness- and sharing health and wellness benefits. Flowers are Self-care made easy.
"However, my two messages about flowers are – 1. Please yourself – and – 2. Enjoy the health and wellness benefits flowers provide," Schwanke emphasized. "Don't be intimidated by a bouquet at the store – as I demonstrate in every episode, arranging flowers is easy, enjoyable, and you only have to please yourself. Studies have documented the many benefits that you will experience from arranging flowers, including relaxation, happier feelings, and, incredibly, a release of endorphins. Even just looking at an image of flowers has been documented as a way to de-stress."
