China: Inside the Dounan Flower Market

In 1998, Dounan Flower was established under the leadership of Mr. Wang Jiancun. In 1999, the Dounan Flower Market (3.73 hectares at the time) was put into operation, and the Chinese flower industry was born. Over the past 23 years, the entrepreneurial team's mission has been to serve growers and florists and promote the development of Yunnan's flower industry.

The company’s asset scale has increased from less than 1 million RMB to 2 billion RMB, and the market operating area has expanded from 30,000 square meters to 330,000 square meters. In terms of transaction volume, cash volume, export volume, and visitors, the market has ranked first for 23 consecutive years in China

Dounan Flower Market has more than 2,200 enterprises, tens of thousands of flower brokers, more than 1,000 shippers, 46 logistics companies, and 40,000 employees. There are 80,000 flower growers and nearly 12,000 cooperatives associated with Dounan Flower Market, covering major fresh-cut flower-producing areas such as Kunming, Yuxi, Chuxiong, Honghe, and Qujing. Many local merchants have become big growers and set up enterprises, and many florists moved to Dounan with their families, passing the flower business on from generation to generation.

Dounan Flower Market has become the first flower trading center in Asia and the second in the world, and has an annual transaction volume of more than 10 billion RMB.

In terms of fresh-cut flowers, 117 categories and more than 1,600 varieties of fresh-cut flowers enter the market every day, which are exported to more than 50 countries and regions, and account for more than 50% of the national fresh-cut flower market.
