India: Fluctation in the prices of cut flower roses in West Bengal

West Bengal is one of the major producers of cut flowers in India. In West Bengal, Howrah, Nadia, and Purba Medinipur are the three leading districts in the production of cut flowers. Other major producing states include Maharastra, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh.

In these mentioned districts of West Bengal, several other types of flowers are cultivated such as marigold, jasmine, tuberose, and gerbera. In the district of Howrah and Purba Medinipur, two varieties of cut flower roses are mainly cultivated; Madgod and Mini Pearl. Roses are also being cultivated in greenhouses.

Flower cultivation in a small area of land is the main source of livelihood, so the present study has been conducted to determine the fluctuation of market price, deseasonalization of market prices, and seasonal indexes over two districts Howrah and Purba Medinipur.
