Green Circle Growers announces hiring campaign

US (OH): “Raising our hourly wage was necessary to stay competitive”

Green Circle Growers, one of the largest greenhouses in North America, has announced a hiring campaign to add up to 100+ workers to its growing team of employees. These entry-level roles are in anticipation of a heightened need at the holidays and beyond and include such positions as general labor, growers, crew leaders, shipping/receiving, forklift operators, material handlers, and other light industrial roles. The company has raised its minimum hourly rate to $17/hour for entry-level workers and is offering a $400 signing bonus and significant benefits, including medical, dental, vision, holidays, and competitive 401K matching.

“Since our inception more than 50 years ago, we have always lived up to our mission of ‘making every day better with plants',” said Scott Giesbrecht, Co-CEO of Green Circle Growers. “In order to do that, we need to add people in a variety of roles to our already talented team.  We offer extremely competitive wages and benefits, and it’s a great working environment – it’s why we have so many people who have been with us for decades.”

A quickly changing landscape
According to Giesbrecht, it is surprising how fast and how competitive the landscape has changed for employers trying to hire land workers.  “At Green Circle Growers, raising the hourly wage from $15 to $17/hour was necessary to stay competitive locally. Just three years ago, we were at about $9 an hour – that’s a big jump, but necessary to stay competitive. In addition to our hourly wage increase, we’re also reassessing pay rates across the business, from the greenhouse to the office, to ensure we’re paying competitive wages and salaries.”

“Flexible work schedules, a leadership academy, and better onboarding and training for new team members are just a few of the ways we’re addressing the hiring and retention challenge we’re all facing. Our team continues to be our greatest strength, so we want to make sure we’re taking the time to holistically address the issue across every area of the business,” Giesbrecht adds.
