Open house Plantador Colombia

"Despite the increased production costs, interested in new varieties high"

“We were personally surprised by the amount of positive energy and the interest in planting new varieties", says Aviram Krell of Plantador Colombia when talking about their annual open house that took place in the second week of March.

"We know that the current state of some key markets is problematic, but having our growers come out and show their intent in planting new fields and replacing older plants gives us a strong impression that the market is behaving well, in spite of the increased costs of production."

With special planning and hosting this event for several days, Plantador Colombia managed to make sure that all the visitors were attended to with personal attention, and that no area felt too crowded at a time.

Know what they want to grow
The growers also seem to have a very strong idea about where they want to aim for their target clientele. "Some growers, for example, mentioned how critical it is for them to grow more of the Yellow GoldFinch, while others were targeting the hot pink market with Jacaranda or Legend, two of the newer varieties we are offering in that color range. Yet others came with the sole interest in increasing their inventory of exotic or garden-shaped roses."

According to Krell, this indicates that there are opportunities to grow. "Having these clients that know what their particular direction should give us confidence that there is still a lot of unmet demand from the consumer side."

Advice based on the specific needs of the growers
Krell is happy that they are able to walk hand in hand with their growers, helping them with advice based on the grower's specific needs. "We, for example, currently have 7 commercial yellow varieties available in the market, yet different farms that supply different markets should know which of these varieties is best for them."

Great interest in Mapal hydroponic system
In addition to the beautiful flowers that were being displayed, they also saw a great deal of interest in the hydroponic systems that Plantador offers. "These Mapal systems are used to maintain a permanent barrier between the soil and any contaminants it may have and the plants. Mapal has been used on a wide variety of crops and we welcome anyone with questions on how to apply it to contact us directly."

All in all, Krell and the Plantador team are very happy with this year's edition. "We want to thank everyone who came by, the open house would not have been the success that it was without the feedback, the laughs, and the energy we saw from our amazing clients. Can’t wait to see you all next year."
