Lake Township flower farm lands spot in John Deere tractor commercial series

Bloom Hill Farm owners Shannon and Judd Allen likely have been popping up on your television. The couple is among seven farmers from around the country who use John Deere equipment and are featured in the company's most recent national advertising campaign.

Bloom Hill Farm grows flowers — tulips, peonies, sunflowers and dahlias are a few. They cut the flowers and sell bouquets at local farmers markets and from a stand in front the farm at 10475 Hoover Ave. NW. Shannon also designs bouquets and arrangements for weddings. Flowers are a "visual product," so social media posts are one of the methods for getting word to customers, Shannon said.

Because they use John Deere equipment on the farm, Shannon would tag the company in her posts. The Allens figure the posts and accompanying photos caught the attention of a casting agency. Late last summer, the couple found themselves on a Zoom call with eight people. They talked about the farm and their three children and showed them the property. A few weeks later, film crews were at the farm. They spent two days following the Allen family filming as they harvested dahlias.

The end result is several 30-second commercial spots on national television networks, as well as on YouTube. There also are radio spots. Judd Allen was surprised recently while driving when he heard his voice over the truck radio.
